FACING THE GIANT
In the Bible, Giants refer to the enemy of enormous strength and size.
The first mention of the word in Gen 6, shows that when the Sons of God sinned against the women of the world, they
gave birth to Giants. In our lives too, we as Children of God adulter with the world to give birth to giants of problems
that oppose us in our daily life. David was able to face the giant Goliath and defeat him only with the help of God. Let us see how we can learn from David on how we also can overcome giants in our life thru God.
David did not put on the armor of a KING of the armies of Isreal
1 Sam 17:5 Goliath had a bronze helmet on his head, armed with a coat of mail five thousand shekels of bronze. 6 he had bronze armor on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders. 7 the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels; 43 Goliath cursed David by his gods.
We see that Goliath had put on a full armour. He relied on his strength and the weapons and their weight and material, but he did not depend on God, rather he cursed by his gods.
1 Sam 17:28-39 Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart...
33 Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him...
37 David said, “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you!”
38 So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. 39 David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them.” So David took them off.
David was not only discouraged by his own brothers (v28) but also King Saul (v33). Similarly we may get discouraged from our own loved ones instead of the enemy. But our trust and faith in the Lord should not be shaken. David did not prefer to wear Sauls armor (v38) but trusted in the Lord and also took with him 5 stones and a sling in a bag.
David put on the armor of GOD (KING of KINGS) of the armies of Isreal
1 Sam 17:40 David took five smooth stones, in a shepherd’s bag, and his sling And he drew near to the Philistine...
45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you...all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s. 49 David struck Goliath with the stone and killed him.
Instead of the Kings armor, David prefered the armor of the King of Kings. He went with 5 stones and a sling. He proclaims to come in the name of the God of the armies of Isreal. He states that he will win with the help of the Lord of hosts who owns the battle. Finally we see that Goliath used his gods to curse. But David depended on God and declared that his God is more powerfull over the size, skill, experience and armour of Goliath. He attributes his proposed victory to God and gives all Glory to God and not to himself.
In our life we would take pride in wearing a Kings armor, but we need to put our trust in the Lord,
for the armor of the world or a king cannot help us over come these giants. When we proclaim our trust in the Lord, he will give us victory againts the giants. Also note that David used only one stone but he took 5. Similarly, even if we
trust the Lord, we must do our task of taking some stone, not just one and not too many.
The Armor of God
Similarly with God we can overcome giants like David did. We can compare the 6 tools of David (5 stones and sling) to each 6 parts of the armor of God as seen below. We can overcome the enemy with this whole armor of God.
Gal 6:13 Take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit...

1 Cor 1:30 Christ Jesus, became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness
3-Feet with Gospel of Peace

4-Shield of Faith
16 take the shield of faith (in Jesus) to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked...
Gal 2:20b the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God.
5-Helmet of Salvation
17a take the helmet of salvation (thru Jesus);
Act 4:12 There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved than Jesus.
6-Sword of the Spirit
17b and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Jesus);
Heb 4:12 the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow
CONCLUSION:- Thus we cannot win the giants in life with the armor of the world or kings, but the armor of the King of Kings, the armor of God thru Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Faith, Salvation, Spirit, Word of God and Prayers thru our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to whom be all Honor & Glory, forever and ever, Amen.
