ASKING GOD FOR BLESSINGS
Let us see how different people in the Bible asked for Gods blessings for themselves and for others.
Blessings for Ourselves
Pharoah
Exo 12:32 He said to Moses “Rise, go out from among my people (children, flocks and herds); and bless me also.”
Saul
1 Sam 15:25 Saul: please pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD.”
26 Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the LORD,
and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel.” (Ref 13:13)
27 And as Samuel turned around to go away, Saul seized the edge of his robe, and it tore.
Esau
Esau despised his birthright. (Gen 25:34) and took as wives daughters of Hittite, 35 And they were a grief to Isaac and Rebekah. (26:34)
Heb 12:16 Esau was a fornicator and profane person, for one morsel of food sold his birthright.
17 when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.
Gen 27:34/38 Esau cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me also, O my father!” 38 “Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me also, O my father!” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.
Jacob
Gen 32:13Jacob took for Esau goats, ewes and rams, milk camels, cows and bulls, donkeys, servant's
22 he took his two wives, his two female servants, and his sons,
23 He sent them over the brook 24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.
25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; 26 And He said, “Let Me go,
for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”
Blessings for Others
Abraham
Gen 18:17/22 LORD: “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, 22 Abraham still stood before the LORD. 23 And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?...
Moses
Exo 32:11-32 Moses pleaded with the LORD his God, and said: “LORD, why does Your wrath burn hot against me
30 Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”32 Yet now, if You will forgive their sin—but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.”
Conclusion:- When we pray to God asking for our needs let us do it in true spirit whole heartedly and not be hardened as the pharoah, nor foolish/disobedient like Saul, nor profane like Esau, but let us hold on to Gods heel and pray without ceasing. When we pray as leaders for others needs, lets put ourselves in front of them and pray on their behalf like Abraham and Moses did for their people.
